How Would You Treat? Complex Wounds, Critical Decisions
Presentation

Join a panel of experienced wound care clinicians for an interactive walkthrough of complex wound treatment decision-making. Through the lens of several diverse real-world cases, including a longstanding sacral pressure ulcer, a post-mastectomy wound in radiated tissue, a recurrent pilonidal cyst, and challenging diabetic foot ulcers, participants will collaboratively walk through each stage of care planning, from initial diagnostics and wound assessment to treatment approach and follow-up strategies. Audience input and clinical reasoning will be at the forefront as panelists and attendees together evaluate best practices, treatment options, and decision-making frameworks. Following discussion, the case-presenting clinician will reveal the actual treatment approaches used and clinical outcomes achieved. Sponsored by Reprise Biomedical, this symposium is designed to prioritize peer exchange, evidence-based thinking, and pragmatic insights for treating today’s most challenging wounds.

3:35pm: Cold Plasma

3:55pm: Psychological issues in relation to wounds

Understanding patient perspectives surrounding their wounds and medical care to achieve the best healing outcomes

4:10pm: Near Infrared Spectroscopy

This session will introduce the attendee to Ner Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), a novel imaging technology that can be incorporated into a comprehensive wound care program to improve wound healing outcomes. The technical aspects of NIRS will be presented. The presentation will discuss the clinical applications of NIRS including wound bed preparation, vascular assessment, CAMPs, HBOT with emphasis on the diagnostic-assessment and management of patients at risk for limb loss.

OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the technology of Near Infrared Spectroscopy
  • Explain the potential utilization of NIRS within a comprehensive limb salvage and amputation prevention program
  • Define how NIRS imaging can complement and enhance clinical decision making in patients at risk for limb loss that are receiving wound care and vascular services

4:25pm: Vascular - DVA and Bioresorbable technology

Present cases and the current data for using Deep Venous Arterialization in the treatment of nonhealing wounds, Examine the development and potential benefits of bioresorbable technologies for use in vascular cases

4:40pm: Introduction to AI in Wound Care

This session offers a foundational overview of how artificial intelligence revolutionizes wound care delivery. Attendees will explore key AI concepts, current clinical applications — including imaging analysis, predictive modeling, and documentation tools—and the benefits these technologies bring to both patients and providers.
